I love my boyfriend.
Tonight he took me out on a Monday date night. Now you have to know that Mondays are probably my worst day. I attribute it to something Pastor Ed calls 'the holy hangover'. After a weekend of services, I really struggle with focus & productivity.
Stop number one: Waffle House. I know what you're thinking, 'really sb? waffle house?' You have to understand, I LOVE the WAFFLE HOUSE! It reminds me of certain parts of my hometown & I love breakfast. Did you know the Waffle House has a juke box complete with songs dedicated to the Waffle House? It's hilarious & wonderful.
Stop number two: the movies to see '500 Days of Summer'. I loved this movie! It's a buy. I love quirky movies (thank you Fox Searchlight!) and love seeing Joseph Gordon-Levitt working again! It was great to see a girlier movie as this summer has been packed with boy movies (trust me, i was tapping out of any more testosterone driven movies for a bit). It was also great that Chris enjoyed the movie too.
So add tonight to the very long list of reasons why I love my boyfriend.

sisters
Last week Mitch & Jennie were blessed with a BEAUTIFUL baby girl: Colbie. I've been known to babysit their oldest: Carly (quite possibly the cutest 2 year old in the world). Wednesday I went over to their house & met this gorgeous baby girl. She is TINY & PERFECT! The best part of the visit was watching Carly with her baby sister.
She is a precious big sister. She showed me the proper way to hold Colbie (she cradled her arms & swung them from side to side). She also showed me how to give Colbie kisses & how to hug her. Carly is so proud of her baby sister. It's so sweet to watch! Unfortunately I was too enamored to take out my camera--but I plan on visiting those precious sisters soon...and when I do, no worries, I'll post b/c trust me, it will melt your heart!
**Update: I got a few pics from Mitch....I told you they were sweet!!!

routine
Summer is officially over. 3 weeks of church camp & a weekend of family fun festing are finished. Now it's time to look at the possibilities for the fall: classes, retreats, and before you know it, Christmas services.
Since things are slowing down, I think it's time to find a routine. Tonight Chris & I played Mario Cart then went to the movies. We had movie dinner meaning he had a milkshake & I had most of a funnel cake. This is fun for every now and then but I need to get into a routine of cooking dinner & not allowing my laundry to pile up for weeks.
I'm not quite sure how that will look or how to accomplish it, so suggestions are welcome.

Blob Video
The Blob Video is an office favorite. During week three of camp, three of our four stage characters blobbed (i also blobbed but i wasn't a character). This video has two of the three blobbing. Just to give you a bit of perspective "Mario" (Ryan) is about 5'6" & Jimmy is about 6'5" and a former professional wrestler. Enjoy.
success!
Four stores later, I have all of the items for my student's backpack. Today he & his dad are coming up to the church to pick it up. As I was pulling in, I thought I should bring everything into the office--after all, I'd hate for his crayons to melt. I toss the backpack on my back, grab the extra bag (b/c not everything fit in the backpack), and realized this was ridiculously heavy!
In five hours, I get to give him his backpack! I can't wait! I picked up a handful of items that weren't on his list b/c I thought they were something he would enjoy. :-)

School Supplies
After two hours of scavenging, I am only four items away from getting all of the school supplies needed for tomorrow. Our church is having a back to school drive & I adopted one of the boys in my room. I can't wait to give him his Cowboys backpack bursting with all of those back to school goodies.
I was amazed at some of the deals ($0.25 for a box of crayons, $0.15 for a notebook, $0.35 for a ruler) and slightly surprised at the cost of some items ($4 for a binder, really?). Four items on the list are a bit elusive (specific art paper & red pens) but tomorrow morning before heading into the office, I plan to hit up the office supply stores to mark those off my list.
Challenge: have you thought about picking up some school supplies & donating them to local schools? Think about it: you spending a dollar on crayons (or folders or whatever ridiculously cheap item you prefer) could definitely brighten some students' year. It could also brighten the teacher's year too...that means less money out of their budget (we all know education isn't funded like it should be & teachers are underpaid).
And on a totally unrelated note, buying school supplies causes me to think of bouquets of freshly sharpened pencils which leads me to think of my favorite romantic comedy of all time: "You've Got Mail".
Joe Fox: So what's his handle?
Kathleen Kelly: Uh...
Joe Fox: I'm not going to write him, if that's what you're worried about. You think I'm going to e-mail him?
Kathleen Kelly: All right... NY152.
Joe Fox: N-Y-one-five-two. One hundred and fifty-two. He's... one hundred and fifty-two years old. He's had one hundred and fifty-two moles removed, so now he's got one hundred and fifty-two pock marks on his face.
Kathleen Kelly: The number of people who think he looks like Clark Gable.
Joe Fox: One hundred and fifty-two people who think he looks like a Clark BAR.
Kathleen Kelly: [laughing] Why did I ever tell you this?
Joe Fox: One hundred and fifty-two stitches from his nose job. The number of souvenir shot glasses that he's collected in his travels.
Kathleen Kelly: No! The number... his address? No, no, he would never do anything that prosaic.

Family Fun Fest
It's the biggest event in Fellowship Church's history. It happens this weekend after services on Saturday & Sunday. If you're in the dfw area, please stop by & check it out.

nice
The past three days I've redone my room at church (with some help from Chris, Preston, and Marty). I've got to say--I'm very pleased! It looks bigger, brighter, and better. So the next you're by, let me know & I'll show it off to you.
Longer updates to come after this week is finished. :-)

happy! happy! camp! camp! yay!
Let me just start off my saying that I am incredibly blessed with a dream job. Yes, I am a church lady. A church lady at a church that focuses on loving their neighbor, community outreach, and furthering God's Kingdom. It is amazing.
I got back in beautiful dfw around 4:30. After spending another week at camp, I am completely in awe that I get to do what I do. I get to work in a children's ministry that is like NOTHING else I've ever seen. I get to show them God's love & help them love church. God has given me stupendous volunteers who go above & beyond the call of duty.
It's humbling.
This week at camp, God held a mirror up to me & showed me the nastiness in my life. God graciously reminded me that He brings change & makes all things new. I have some areas to improve upon & it starts now.
I was also reminded the importance of being an armor bearer. Fourteen months ago, my boss had us all read God's Armor Bearer (volumes 1 & 2) by Terry Nance. It was impactful. I highly recommend reading it. I want to be a better armor bearer--I want to support the team God has placed me on in such a way that He is glorified. I want my boss to be freed up to minister more because I am supporting him in all that he does. I want to be a servant leader who furthers God's Kingdom.
It was a great two weeks at camp. I have great expectations for this fall--I can't wait to see how God continues to move.

contact
I used to be really good about staying in touch with people. Freakishly so. I'd email & call on a weekly basis or semi weekly basis. I knew what was going on not due to twitter or facebok but because I had taken the time to call them.
Over the last couple of years, I've really dropped the ball. Seriously it's embarrassing how poorly of a job I've done of the last eighteen months or so. Things change now. Tonight after services I called four precious friends to get in touch. I left two messages & talked to the other two. I can't wait talk to more.
I realize my timing isn't the best as I leave for camp after service & won't be able to make contact for a week. So friends (especially from OBU), just you wait--you'll get some calls soon. Bloggy friends I'll see you in about a week.
